Aethes margarotana

(Duponchel, 1836)49.117

Formerly a rare coastal species in the south-east whose larvae feed on Sea Holly Eryngium campestre, this moth has been considered extinct in the UK since the last mainland sighting near Felixstowe in July 1937. It was therefore a very unlikely and unexplained find on the southern edge of the extensive Greatmoor land-fill site in Bucks during 2013.
