Very local in the region but recent use of pheromone lures has shown it to be less rare than previously thought. Further surveying is likely to produce additional new sites in all 3 counties. Occurs in damp woodland and damp heathland.

Has a two-year life-cycle and thought to fly only in "even" years, although the first Bucks record in 2005 was from an "odd" year.
