Resident very locally in the region until the mid 20th century, in particular in woodland on the Oxfordshire / Buckinghamshire border. Very occasional records of probable immigrants since, including two in 2020 (one in West Oxfordshire and one in Berkshire), with further sightings subsequently in Berks and Bucks. Records of immigrants of this species have increased more widely and it is a likely future colonist of the region.
