This European species has been found hiding in plain sight in the Channel Islands and some southern counties of England and Wales since at least 2020. It was confirmed by dissection from both Bucks and Berks during November 2024.

Although Spiny Hook-tip is generally very slightly larger, it is very similar indeed to Oak Hook-tip and we are still learning how to separate the pair visually. On fresh specimens the size and shape of the black area at the "hook-tip" is likely to be the only helpful feature. For now any candidates should be retained for dissection.
